Monday, September 02, 2002

Johnson City, Tenn. (September 2, 2002) - The East Tennessee State women's soccer team defeated UNC Asheville 2-1 in their home opener Monday night. East Tennessee struck first as senior Lena Summers (Johnson City, Tenn.) headed the ball into the net off an assist from freshman Catherine Olsen (Thurmont, Md.) in the 44th minute of the second period. Asheville struck next as the Bulldog's Hilary McKay tied the score at one in the 39th minute. The Buccaneers would take the lead for good after freshman Lauren Kulish (Bowie, Md.) scored off of an assist from Olsen. "After coming off the loss at Radford, tonight's game was like night and day," said ETSU Head Coach Heather Henson. "We took care of the details tonight, Andrea (Brown) played exceptional for us in the center, every person that came off the bench contributed to this win." East Tennessee State will open up their conference play September 5 at home against Appalachian State at 7:00. "If we come out and play with the same effort Thursday night it will be very exciting," said Henson.
