ROCK HILL, S.C. (September 19, 2003) - East Tennessee State scored two early goals and added one late in the second half as they defeated Winthrop 3-0 in women's soccer action Friday evening at Eagle Field. The Buccaneer women's soccer team improved to 6-1-0 overall, 1-0-0 SoCon, while Winthrop fell to 3-7-1.
Junior Jennifer Fields (Mount Airy, Md.) scored 54 seconds into the game off a pass from Rebecca Murray (Franklin, Tenn.) to give the Buccaneers a 1-0 lead.
Senior midfielder Andrea Brown (High Point, N.C.) added a goal in the 13th minute to give ETSU a 2-0 lead. Katherine Gentry (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) assisted on the play.
Emily Fulcher (New Bern, N.C.) scored at the 80:54 mark off a pass from Lindsay Hoffman (Frederick, Md.) to set the final score at 3-0.
ETSU out-shot Winthrop 15-12 in the game, including a nine to seven advantage in shots on goal.
ETSU goalkeeper Heather Sanden (Manassas, Va.) shut out the Lady Eagles on seven saves while the Bucs shut out their fifth opponent of the year.
The Bucs return home to host the Furman Lady Paladins this Sunday at 2:00p.m. at Liberty Bell Field.
