JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 4, 2004) - Junior Erin Ashton (New Bern, N.C.) has been named to the 2004 Academic All-District IV Women's Soccer Third Team. The team members were selected via voting by CoSIDA members.

Ashton, who is majoring in biology and enrolled in the pre-med program at east Tennessee State University, was selected for her accomplishments both on the field and in the classroom. This is the second consecutive year that she has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team.

Earlier today the Southern Conference recognized her by being named to the 2004 All-Southern Conference second team. During the 2004 season, Ashton played in 14 games and started 13 of those games, missing three of ETSU's games due to injury. Once again she was instrumental in the Bucs offense recording two goals in the season, one of which was the game winner in the 3-0 win against Winthrop. She also led the team in assists (4), points (8), and shots (32). In conference action she placed seventh in shots per game averaging 2.75 shots in each conference game. Ashton was also named to the All-SoCon second team in 2003.

In the classroom, Ashton is a standout student-athlete. She has been named to the dean's list, ETSU honor roll, and Southern Conference honor roll in both her freshman and sophomore years. She is also a third-year member of the Alpha Lambda Delta honor society.

To be nominated for the Academic All-America team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore starter or significant reserve on her team with a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. The District IV team is compiled from NCAA Division I women's soccer teams from Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.
