Women's soccer loses first A-Sun contest

Friday, September 23, 2005

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (September 23, 2005)-  In the first A-Sun match of the season, ETSU fell, 2-1, to Jacksonville in a hard-fought match Friday night.  The Buccaneers are now 3-5-0, 0-1 in the A-Sun, on the season.

With the score knotted at zero in the second half, Ju's Keri Zwikker assisted Michelle Lavine, on a goal to give the Dolphins the 1-0 advantage.

The Buccaneers answered back off an Erin Ashton (New Bern, N.C.) penalty kick to tie the game, 1-1, with 15-minutes to go.

Three minutes later, JU's Stephanie Elgie fought through three Buccaneer defenders to hit the game winning goal and seal the victory for the Dolphins.

"JU played very aggressive and did a good job getting behind the ball," said head women's soccer coach Heather Henson.  "We weren't strong enough defensively as a team.  We need to clean-up our defense and take advantage of our scoring opportunities."

The Buccaneers will take on North Florida at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday before returning to Johnson City to face Mercer on at 7:00 p.m.
