Women's soccer ready for first A-Sun contest

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (September 21, 2005) - This weekend the ETSU women's soccer team will open up its inaugural campaign in the Atlantic Sun Conference with a road trip to Florida.  The Buccaneers will take on Jacksonville University at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, followed by a 1:00 p.m. match on Sunday against the University of North Florida. 

ETSU is ranked fourth in the A-Sun Conference with a 3-4 record.  Florida Atlantic (5-3) holds the top spot, followed by Kennesaw State (4-1) and Stetson University (4-5). 
Only the league's top six teams qualify for the 2005 A-Sun Championship hosted by Gardner-Webb Nov. 3-5.

Both senior Erin Ashton (New Bern, N.C.) and Meghan Morris (Bowie, Md.) have been named A-Sun Players of the Week this season.  Ashton leads the Buccaneers in goals with four, and assists with three.  Morris has a total of three goals on the season.

 

Other key performers include junior Emily Fulcher (New Bern, Md.) who is tied for the team lead in goals with four, and Rebecca Murray (Franklin, Tenn.) who has two goals on the season. 

 

ETSU will host a total of five A-Sun matches this season, the first being against Mercer on Friday, Sept. 29.
