JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 9, 2007) - East Tennessee State University women's soccer head coach Heather Henson announced yesterday that seven skilled young ladies have joined the Buccaneer squad for the 2007 fall season.
They include midfielder Jennifer Altimier (
"I am very excited to have this group of ladies joining our team in the fall. This freshman class should compliment our current team by adding attacking minded players with some size and speed. I feel this group will mesh with our current team by matching their mentality to train and goals of winning championships," said head coach Heather Henson. Jennifer Altimier * Midfielder *
Prep: Four-year letterwinner at Mt. Notre Dame HS…coached by Doug Conway…helped her team to it's best record in school history in 2006…was an honorable mention for All-League in 2004, named to the first team All-League in 2005, was an honorable mention for All-City in 2005, named to the All-City team in 2006, and competed in the All-Star game in 2006…led her club team to the semi-finals of the Orange Classic in 2005 and 2006 and the Elite Eight in the State Cup in 2005…member of the Spanish Club, Mission Commission, and was named to the honor roll every quarter throughout high school...community service includes volunteer coaching volleyball.
Personal: Born on Nov. 18, 1988…plans to major in exercise science…daughter of Mark and Leslie Altimier.
Coach Henson on Altimier: Jennifer looks to use combination play to advance the ball into the attack. Her decision making on the ball will increase the amount of time we are in possession of the ball. She has improved every time we have seen her play and we expect that trend to continue. She is another player is this class who strikes the ball very well.
Kelly Brinkman * Midfielder *
Prep: Four-year letterwinner at Palm Harbor University HS….coached by John Planamenta…led her team to the 2004 FHSAA 5A State Semi-finals, the 2005 FHSAA 5A Finals, the 2006 FHSAA State Championship, the 2007 FHSAA State Semi-finals, three District Championships, the 2006 PCAC Championship…was a State ODP player from 2002-2006, was named to the 2006 and 2007 All-State First Team, was a 2006 Wendy's Heisman Nominee, named to the All-County First Team in 2005 and 2006…led her club team to the 2004 Southern Regional Semi-finals and the 2004 and 2005 FYSA State Championships…was named to the Dean's List, Honor Roll and carried a 4.4 weighted GPA and was in the top 15% of her class…was a member of Health Occupation Students of America, the National Honor Society, and Students Against Drunk Driving…community service includes working in a soup kitchen, volunteer coaching soccer, and as a dental assistant.
Personal: Born on Aug. 10, 1989…plans to major in Criminal Justice…daughter of Gregory and Beth Brinkman.
Coach Henson on Brinkman: Kelly has great vision to finish as well as find the final third pass. She will be an additional attacking threat, based on the fact that she strikes a great ball both in the flow of play and off of restarts. These traits will be a great addition to our middle to final third play. She also brings a proven tradition of winning both at the high school and the club level.
Jessica Huntington * Forward *
Prep: Four-year letterwinner at Menchville HS…captain of her team in her senior season…helped her team to three District and Tournament Championships in 2004, 2005, and 2006, was named to the All-District First Team in 2004, 2005, and 2006, was a Regional Semi-finalist in 2004, named to the Regional Second Team in 2005, was named to the Daily Press All-Start Top 100 Athletes in 2005 and 2006, was the Garvey Tournament MVP in 2006, and was named Most Deserving by her team…also lettered in Field Hockey…was named to the Principal's List for Academic Honors and was an honor roll student…was the treasurer for the National Honor Society, member of the Varsity Club, the Keyettes, and the Spanish Club…also involved in her community as a reading tutor at a local elementary school, was a youth soccer assistant coach and a youth field hockey coach.
Personal: Born on April 30, 1989 …major is undecided…daughter of Charlie and Shelley Huntington.

Prep: Three-year letterwinner for Colleyville Heritage HS…coached by Misail Tsapos…captain of her team in her senior season…led team two years in a row to a District Championship and a Top 10 National Ranking…they went undefeated in 5-5A district play, earned a 2nd place ranking in the state of Texas…was named to the All-District Second Team and was a Dallas Morning News Player of the Week…also played club soccer with Sting and Dallas Texans '89 West…member of FCA, Who's Who among High School Students, the National Society of High School Scholars and the National Honor Society…community service includes working with the Special Olympics, Teen Court, and volunteering at an elementary school.
Personal: Born on April 12, 1989…major is undecided…daughter of Craig and Eileen Jutras.
Coach Henson on Jutras: Morgan is a hard nosed midfield and shifting midfielder. She is a player who finds the through ball very well and doesn't lose possession. She does a great job of switching the point of attack. Her true strength comes from her work rate to defend and then transition to the attack quickly in very few touches.
Alexandra Meehan * Defender *
Prep: Three-year letterwinner at Bearden HS...coached by Eric Turner…was named Best Midfielder and team MVP in 2005 and 2006, All-District in 2003, 2005, and 2006, All-Region 2005 and 2006, All-State 2005 and 2006, District Midfielder of the Year in 2005, District MVP in 2006, helped lead her team to a State Championship in 2006, was named to the Prep Xtra First Team in 2006, and was a Texas Roadhouse Player of the Week in 2006, was also named to the NSCAA All-Region IV team…was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Government, Key Club…community service includes performing 50 hours of community service through the Key Club.
Personal: Born on Oct. 27, 1988…plans to major in Political Science…daughter of Richard and Susan Meehan.
Coach Henson on Meehan: Alex is a fearless defender, who will do anything it takes to deny the shot. She is a blue collar player who makes a team better by bringing it everyday. She leaves it all on the field.
Terri Miller * Forward *
Prep: Four-year letterwinner at Manner HS … coached by Ann Bemming…helped lead her team to District Championships in 2004 and 2005, was a member of the All-Area, All-County, and All-State teams in 2005 and 2006…also lettered in volleyball…was a member of the National Honor Society and was an honor roll student, participated in student government and indoor soccer…community service includes being a student aid, Habitat for Humanity and the Adopt-A-Road program.
Personal: Born on Oct. 21, 1988…major is undecided … daughter of Todd and Linda Miller.
Coach Henson on Miller: Terri is a scorer. She has a knack for finding the ball at that opportune time that makes the difference. Her natural athleticism coupled with her ability to finish out of the air and hit quality shots from several ranges makes her an impact in the attacking third.
Rachel Van Horn * Forward *
Prep: Four-year letterwinner and starter at La Reina HS … coached by Joe Laraneta and Creighton Van Horn…captain of her team in her senior season…was the second leading goal scorer over the last three years…participated in the Olympic Development Program…also played club soccer with CSL Premier League…also lettered in track and field…was a member of the Art Club, was the class mascot, and was a School Retreat Leader…community service includes volunteering as a secretary's assistant at church and helping with Sunday school.
Personal: Born on May 26, 1989…plans to major in Business Management…daughter of Creighton and Bea Van Horn.
Coach Henson on Van Horn: Rachel's strength on the ball will cause our opponents to second guess their decision to try to win the ball. She brings a rare combination of size and speed; standing 5'10 makes her an easy target to find in the box. Her shooting range will create many scoring opportunities.
