The Bruins jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first four minutes of play as Elizabeth Bublis netted the first goal of the game during the third minute and moments later Annie Musacchio connected with Jamie Bullock for the second goal.
ETSU continued to battle as they out shot the Bruins 9-5 in the first period but the Belmont defense was able to thwart the Buccaneer's attack as they went into halftime with the 2-0 advantage.
In the second period, the Bucs came out fighting early as freshman Krista Toliver (Arlington, Texas) netted her first goal of the year during the 47th minute when Hannah Johnson (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) connected with Meredith Goldman (Knoxville, Tenn.) to flip the ball to Toliver.
The Bucs continued to fight and were able to tie the match as Katie O'Bryan (Hampton, Va.) hit the back of the net on a free kick.
With 15 minutes left in regulation play, Rachel Layer (Bel Air, Md.) scored her third goal of the season on a pass from senior Blair DeGraw (Greensboro, N.C.) to give the Bucs the 3-2 advantage. It would prove to be the game-winner as the Buccaneer defense was able to shut down the Bruin attack.
"Belmont is a very good team, they are very disciplined and well coached," said head coach Heather Henson. "We came out a little on edge, but fortunately we were able to re-focus and come out in the second half and get the job done."
