BUIES CREEK, N.C. (Oct. 13, 2007) - The ETSU women's soccer team battled the Campbell Camels to a 1-1 double overtime tie on Saturday afternoon at Eakes Soccer Complex. The Bucs move to 6-4-3 overall and 2-3-1 in the A-Sun while the Camels are 1-8-2, 0-4-2.
During the first half the ETSU and Campbell battled for the early lead while the Bucs outshot the Camels, 6-1 but remained at a 0-0 deadlock going into halftime.
ETSU opened up its attack early in the second period as sophomore Jordan Monty (Mesquite, Texas) netted her seventh goal of the season to give the Bucs a 1-0 advantage in the 48th minute.
However with under a minute remaining in regulation Kathryn Saunders tied the game at 1-1 on a pass from Ilene Fahle to force the match into overtime.
In the first overtime the Buccaneer defense was able to shut down the Camel attack outshooting them 3-0 to send the match into a second overtime.
The Bucs and the Camels each made two shots in the second overtime but were unable to score as the deadlock continued to end the match in a 1-1 tie.
Monty led the team in shots with six, while Morgan Jutras (Colleyville, Texas) contributed three. Freshman Rachel Van Horn (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) once again stepped in at the goalkeeper position, making six saves on the day.
"We played well today and we were able to execute and we created a lot of opportunities but we just didn't finish those opportunities," said head coach Heather Henson.
The Bucs will return for a two-game homestand next week, as they will take on the Mercer Bears on Thursday, October 19 at 4 p.m. before facing Kennesaw State on Saturday, October 21. For all ETSU women's soccer action visit www.ETSUBucs.com.
