Summers family honored for their generosity to the Buccaneers

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 8, 2008) - Before a large gathering of ETSU athletic department staff, community leaders, family and fans, the Buccaneers officially dedicated the naming of Summers-Taylor Stadium Saturday morning and honored the Summers family, the largest financial donors to the new facility.

"We can't express enough our gratitude to Rab and Nita Summers, and the entire Summers-Taylor family for what they have done to help our soccer program with their financial commitment to this facility, but also for their many years of support for the ETSU athletic program," said ETSU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dave Mullins. "Gifts like this are what will help take our program to the next level, and it allows us to continue to build a program of excellence."

The naming plaque which will be placed along the North wall of Summers-Taylor Stadium was unveiled at the event, which took place just prior to ETSU's men's soccer matchup with Radford. The Buccaneers topped the day off with a 1-0 overtime win over the Highlanders to end their regular season.

Summers-Taylor Stadium is the second venue to be completed in the ETSU capital campaign for athletic facilities. It joins the Warren-Greene Golf Center, which was completed in 2004. Meanwhile, the third facility in the campaign - the new softball stadium - located just off Greenwood Drive will be finished in mere days.
