JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (September 25, 2008) - After completing its non-conference schedule the ETSU women's soccer team will take its first step towards earning a spot in the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament as they travel to play league rival Jacksonville with a 7 p.m., match, Friday at the Ashley Sports Complex.
The Bucs are coming off a brutal stretch of games which featured road trips at regionally ranked No. 6 TCU and nationally ranked No. 22 South Carolina. ETSU used the four-game stretch as a building block to hopefully prepare its young team for tough conference play.
Freshman goalkeeper Megan Masch (Virginia Beach, Va.), leads the ETSU defense making 33 saves. Masch is fifth among league goalkeepers in shutouts and eighth in saves per match.
Offensively, junior forward Jordan Monty (Mesquite, Texas) and freshman forward Genna Petersen (Loveland, Ohio), lead the way with a team-best three points. Monty is currently fourth among conference players in shots and second in shots per game, while Petersen leads ETSU in shot percentage and is tied in game-winning goals.
Jacksonville enters the contest with a 3-4-1 overall record. However, the Dolphins are riding a season high two-game winning streak, picking up wins against Mississippi Valley State and Chattanooga, at the Crimson Tide Classic. Individually, the Bucs must slow down senior forward Keri Zwikker who leads the league in goals and sits second in points. The reigning A-Sun "Player of the Week" has been hot as of late, posting three goals last week in both Jacksonville wins.
