North Texas takes advantage of ETSU miscues, in 4-1 win, Friday

DENTON, Texas (Sept. 12, 2008) - After starting the season 2-0, the ETSU women's soccer team dropped its second match of the year, losing to North Texas 4-1, Friday, in Denton, Texas.


The Mean Green got the scoring started first, as reining Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, Kelli Lunsford took the ball across the North Texas offensive zone and fired a shot from 35 yards out, scoring the game's first goal 16 minutes into the opening half.


North Texas would add another goal in the first half, as junior forward Kendall Juett, added her first goal of the match, after taking advantage of an ETSU foul. Juett would take the Mean Green direct kick from 30 yards out, driving home the game's second goal, giving North Texas a 2-0 lead at the intermission.


As they have all year ETSU would not go home without a fight, as the Bucs battled back and show its character early in the second half, as freshman forward Genna Petersen (Loveland, Ohio) split two Mean Green defenders, finding sophomore forward Jessica Huntington (Newport News, Va.) who fired home her first career goal in the 50th minute.


However, North Texas, who has lost only five home games in the past nine seasons, would continue its offensive attack on the Bucs, as freshman forward Kara Brooks fired home the Mean Green's third goal in the 55th minute. North Texas would add on more goal in the match as Juett find the back of the net again, posting her second goal of the match in 74th minute.


ETSU falls to 2-2 on the season, while North Texas improves to 4-1. The Bucs return to action this Sunday, as ETSU takes on regionally ranked No.12 TCU, in Forth Worth, Texas.
