Van Horn nets ETSU Office of Equity and Diversity award

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 6, 2009) - ETSU women's soccer junior Rachel Van Horn (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), was honored Thursday evening as she received the Scholar Academic Diverstiy award from ETSU President Paul Stanton and the ETSU Office of Equity and Diversity.

 

Van Horn - a forward for the Buccaneers this past season - currently holds a 3.85 grade point average (GPA) in business management. While at ETSU, the Thousand Oaks, Calif., native has been a member of the Buc Honor Roll and Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic team every semester.

 

"I'm very proud of Van for earning this award," said head coach Heather Henson. "With all our players, are main goal is to develop true student-athletes. Our girls know that earning their degrees and making good grades is something that our program puts the highest importance on. Rachel embodies what are program represents with this development."

 

On the field, Van Horn started four of the 15 matches she competed in this fall. Overall, Van Horn was second on the team in goals, after netting scores against Lipscomb, Oct. 4 and Mercer Oct. 16.

           

            The mission of the ETSU women's soccer program is committed to striving for excellence through passion, determination and dedication. Each year players are challenged to grow with a high standard of performance in all aspects of their lives.
