Bucs kick off 2009 season at in-state rival Tennessee

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (August 21, 2009) - The ETSU women's soccer team kicks off not only its season, but the 2009-10 Buccaneer athletic season as well, with a 7:00 p.m., match Saturday at in-state rival Tennessee in Knoxville.

The Bucs (0-0) are coming off an outstanding preseason picking up exhibition match wins against King College and Winthrop last week. Recently, ETSU was picked to finish sixth in the Atlantic Sun Conference Preseason Poll by the league's coaches.

Individually the Bucs return 16 letterwinners, including 10 starters off of last seasons' squad, that included 2008 all-conference members junior midfielder Kelly Brinkman (Clearwater, Fl.), senior forward Jordan Monty (Mesquite, Texas) and sophomore keeper Megan Masch (Virginia Beach, Va.).

Tennessee (0-0) enters the contest after falling in its only exhibition match at No. 16 Duke. The 2008 Southeastern Conference champions return 15 letterwinners, including seven starters, that posted a 10-11-2 record. Recently, Tennessee was picked third in the SEC Eastern Division behind nationally ranked teams Florida and Georgia.
