August 19, 2010
Soccer season 2010 has finally begun. We started Aug. 5th for preseason. That day included many meetings with a bunch of different people and also it was move in day. As a Sophomore I live in the dorms with the other sophomores and freshmen on my team. The 6th is when the soccer part officially began. We have worked very hard since day one, having multiple sessions a day.
This past week has been a busy week for us. Last Wednesday we practiced in the morning and then got on the bus and headed to Charleston, SC. It was a nice five hour bus ride, not as bad as you would think. Once we got there, we got ready and headed to downtown Charleston. There we were able to hang out, shop, and eat dinner. Everything you would expect out of a girls soccer team. Thursday was game day. We got up and eat breakfast at the hotel. After that we headed to the field for our walk through session. It helps get our legs back under us from the bus ride, and allows us to see and scope out the game field. Once the walk through is complete we headed back to hotel for some down time. We ate our pre-game meal and the next thing we knew it was time to leave for the game. It was GAME TIME, ETSU vs. Charleston Southern. It was hot, very hot. We played in the middle of the day so the heat index was very high. We played through it though. Even though we lost we played well. It was our first organized game and we figured out a lot about our team that day. The next morning we had breakfast and packed our stuff it was time to go home, but before heading back to Johnson City we stopped to have a little fun. We stopped at a water park in Charleston. It was a good thing to be able to rest and just have fun with our teammates.
Then the next thing we knew it was Sunday. GAME DAY! We were finally playing at home. Everyone was very excited to play in front of our home fans. The best part of being at home is the time we get to spend as a team in the locker room. It's our space, a place that belongs to the ETSU Women's soccer team and no one can take that from us. We played a tough Radford team, and came out with a tie. Yet again it was another good learning game. These past two exhibition games have really helped us as a team to see what we need to work on and fix. Our first real game is coming up soon. We play Sunday Aug. 22 against UNC-Asheville.
Until next time,
