This week was very eventful for the women's soccer team. We still had classes, weights, practice, and our meetings with Tami but on top of all of that the underclassmen were in charge of the coming weekend activities. This past weekend was our last home weekend. This means it was what we call senior weekend, where we honor our seniors on their last time playing at Summers-Taylor Stadium. This year we have eight seniors, which is a pretty big part of our team. Most of the things we do for our seniors are traditional, things that have been done every year. Some of those include decorating the locker room/their lockers, treat bags, poster cards, spray painted the hill next to the field, and spray painted sheets with their names on then to hang at the field. We were able to get all this done this week, which is amazing. We wanted to make sure that this weekend was the best weekend possible for our seniors. This group was one of the first teams to ever play at Summers-Taylor Stadium which makes them a special group. This group of girls is also very special to us as a team, and all we wanted to do was to make sure their last game on our field was as special as we could make it… I think we made that happen.
Friday was GAME DAY. We had our pre-game meal as usual and kick-off was set for 7:00pm…ETSU versus FGCU. Even though we didn't come out with the result we wanted, we still stuck together as a team and played our system the way it is supposed to be played and we never gave up. Saturday was a big day, not only for the seniors but the rest of us as well. We had practice at 11 a.m., and then as soon as practice was over we got to decorating the locker room and painting the hill. We made sure the seniors knew they were not allowed back in the locker room till after pre-game on Sunday. After we finished all of that we went to the Volleyball game. It's always fun to support the other athletic teams and to see them support us. Finally it was Sunday, our SENIOR GAME! We had pre-game at 9:30 then it was time to let the fun begin. The seniors' faces lit up when they entered the locker room knowing that everything we did that day was to honor them and their time at ETSU. The locker room was crazy before the game, the music blasting, pictures being taken everywhere you looked, and balloons flying all over the place. The ETSU women's soccer locker room was the place to be Sunday around 11 a.m. Then it was GAME TIME… ETSU versus Stetson. We came out on fire, as two freshman scored goals and our senior goal keeper saved a penalty kick with 45 seconds left in the game. When the clock struck 0:00 it was ETSU 2, Stetson 1… we had come out on top. It was the best feeling in the world winning the senior's last regular season home game at ETSU. It was a win not only our team deserved, but those eight deserved it more than anything, so to Masch, Kelly, Terri, Jessica, Van, Jen, Alex, and Morgan… congratulations on your four years playing for ETSU. We love you all and wish you the best of luck in whatever comes your way. Even though we had our senior weekend our season is surely not over. This week we head to Georgia to face Kennesaw State and Mercer. Wish us luck on our conference weekend ahead. GO BUCS!!!
Until next time,
Tori Head #11
