Sunday, October 31, 2010

KENNESAW, Ga. (Oct. 30, 2010) - The ETSU women's soccer team saw its season come to an end Saturday night in the Atlantic Sun Quarterfinals as the Bucs fell to 4th seeded Kennesaw State in an overtime shootout at the KSU Soccer Stadium in Kennesaw, Ga.

"This was a tough way for us to end the season, but I am proud of the way the team battled the entire game," said head coach Heather Henson. "The players never gave up throughout the season and fought through injuries and tough losses, and as a coach I couldn't be more proud of the way this team competed."

The Bucs (8-8-2, 4-5-1 A-Sun) were outshot by the Owls 13-10 in the contest as KSU had a 5-4 advantage in shots coming on frame. Kennesaw also had a 5-3 edge in corners.

Neither team was able to get on the board in regulation as the game would go into overtime. The Owls outshot the Bucs 12-10 in regulation.

The first overtime period saw neither team record a shot as the game remained scoreless.

In the second overtime period, Kennesaw State's Lexi Hastings fired a shot on goal, but keeper Megan Masch (Virginia Beach, Va.) was up to the challenge as she made the stop to send the game into shootouts.

Senior Terri Miller (Cape Coral, Fla.) had her penalty kick in the shootout called off after it went off the crossbar and then ricocheted off of the KSU keeper into the goal putting the Buccaneers behind a shot. The game came to an end as senior Kelly Brinkman (Clearwater, Fla.) had her PK shot saved by Staci Pugh to give the Owls a 4-2 win in shootouts.
