Lady Bucs go 2-0-0 as Gaughan posts two shutouts

MACON, Ga. (September 26, 2011) – Following her performance over the weekend in which she recorded two shutouts to lead ETSU to a 2-0-0 week, senior goalkeeper Caitlin Gaughan (Indianapolis, Ind.) received Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Week honors, the league office announced on Monday.

For the week, Gaughan made 11 saves off 24 shots faced to record her third and fourth shutouts of the season and improve her record to 6-3-0. With the two clean sheets, Gaughan now ranks second in the A-Sun in shutouts and leads the conference with a goals against average of 0.85.

On Friday, the Lady Bucs opened up the conference season at home against USC Upstate. Scoring two goals in each half, ETSU won, 4-0, as Gaughan kept the Spartans off the scoreboard with one save off five shots faced.

On Sunday, UNC Asheville came into Summers-Taylor Stadium and suffered the same fate as Upstate did on Friday. The Bulldogs fell behind early when the Lady Bucs scored two goals in the game’s opening 20 minutes, and Gaughan looked spectacular again. The senior keeper faced a barrage of 19 shots, but met every challenge Asheville could muster through a career-high 10 saves to keep the Bulldogs scoreless.

This marks the first time Gaughan has been named A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week, and she is the first Lady Buc to earn the honor since Rachel Van Horn did so the week of October 15, 2007.
