ETSU one of 148 NCAA schools with both programs recognized, men ranked No. 3 in team GPA
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Nov. 16, 2012) – For the second year in a row, both the ETSU men’s and women’s soccer teams received the NSCAA Team Academic Award, with the association releasing its 2011-12 award winners late Thursday.
The men’s team was awarded for the first time in 2010-11, and followed up with its second straight by posting a team GPA of 3.43, the third highest GPA in the country. The ETSU men's GPA outshined that from schools such as Harvard, Yale, Columbia and Duke, and marks the second consecutive year in which it has ranked its GPA inside the nation's top 25. The Lady Bucs have been honored seven times since 2002, and received their fourth consecutive team award by posting a 3.35 cumulative GPA. To be recognized, a program must carry a team GPA of 3.0 or better.
With both squads taking in the honor, ETSU was named as one of 150 NCAA member institutions who had both its men’s and women’s teams make the list. Out of the Atlantic Sun Conference, a total of five schools – ETSU, Jacksonville, Mercer, Stetson and USC Upstate – had both the men’s and women’s sides receive the award. The A-Sun also saw nine of its 10 women’s programs, and five of its nine men’s programs recognized.NSCAA Team Academic Award HistoryETSU Women’s Soccer – 2002, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012ETSU Men’s Soccer – 2011, 2012
