JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 17, 2013) – The third member of the ETSU women’s soccer team’s 2013-14 recruiting class was released on Friday as Emily Smith (Knoxville, Tenn.) has signed her NLI to play for the Lady Buccaneers.

Smith comes to ETSU from Hardin Valley Academy where she earned four letters in women’s soccer. She was an all-district selection in all four of her high school seasons, and named all-region in 2011 and ’12. Smith's other honors include being named Hardin Valley’s best attacker her junior year, while taking in the honor of top playmaker her senior season, Smith was also named all-Knoxville Interscholastic League (KIL) on her senior campaign. In her four years at Hardin Valley, Smith scored 50 goals and tallied 80 assists.

Smith also competed for four years with the Tennessee State Olympic Development Program (ODP) and earned a selection to the 2012 High School State All-Star Game.

“Emily is a disciplined, fearless player who can provide a good physical presence,” ETSU head coach Adam Sayers said. “She has a very high work rate and is strong in the tackle. She has been working with a very good coach in Mike McLean at HVA, and has developed very well over the last several years. We are pleased to welcome Emily as a member of our squad.”

Along with her athletic accomplishments, Smith graduated top 10 academically in her high school class and was an AP Scholar-Athlete.

Emily is the daughter of Leslie and Alvin Smith. She plans to major in Spanish.
