ETSU picked to finish third in preseason poll

MACON, Ga. (August 8, 2013) – ETSU women’s soccer player Sarah Zadrazil (St. Gilgen, Austria) has been named to the All-Atlantic Sun Preseason First Team, while the Buccaneers have been slated to finish third in conference play. Zadrazil, the reigning Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year, tied the ETSU single-season record last year by recording 10 assists in her first season with the Buccaneers.

One of six returning starters from the 2012 campaign, Zadrazil and the Buccaneers are looking to build upon last season’s fourth-place finish, in which ETSU won a program-record 12 games. The St. Gilgen, Austria native helped pace ETSU’s high-powered offense last season with 18 points, second on the team behind Atlantic Sun Player of the Year, Ramey Kerns. The Buccaneers 2.11 goals per game ranked 29th in the nation.

Florida Gulf Coast’s Ally Kasun was named Preseason Player of the Year, while Ally Lee of Jacksonville was tabbed as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. USC Upstate’s Sarah Plantz, who made 122 saves last season (14th most in the nation), was named Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year.

Receiving one first place vote in a preseason poll among Atlantic Sun coaches, the Buccaneers were picked to finish third in the Atlantic Sun, behind Jacksonville and reigning conference champion Florida Gulf Coast. Mercer, which received no first place votes, was voted in a tie to also finish third, alongside ETSU.

Florida Gulf Coast had a league-high four players named to the All-Atlantic Sun Preseason First Team.

Zadrazil was one of just three underclassmen to be selected to the Preseason First Team.

The Buccaneers will open the season on the road when they take on Appalachian State Aug. 23. ETSU’s home opener will be against future Southern Conference opponent Virginia Military Institute Aug. 30 at 7 p.m.
