JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 28, 2013) - The ETSU women's soccer set a program record for most goals in an Atlantic Sun contest en route to cruising past USC Upstate, 7-1, Saturday night in the team's league opener.

Six different Buccaneer players scored in the contest, including freshmen Cecilia Re (Busnago, Italy) and Molly Collinson (Cramlington, England), who each recorded their first career collegiate goals.

"It was a very accomplished team performance," ETSU head coach Adam Sayers said following the win. "Everyone played well and for each other."

After a fifth-minute goal gave USC Upstate an early 1-0 lead, the Buccaneers (5-4-1) racked up seven unanswered goals—three in the first half and four more after intermission.

"We went behind early, and our response was brilliant," Sayers said.

In her first game since returning from injury, Collinson put the Bucs in the scoring column, recording her first career goal in the 21st minute. The Cramlington, England, native also added another goal in the 57th minute.

Sophomore midfielder and reigning Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year Sarah Zadrazil (St. Gilgen, Austria) followed suit, giving ETSU a 2-1 lead with a score in the 33rd minute. Zadrazil, who rejoined the Bucs Saturday after representing Austria in the World Cup qualifiers, finished the game with one goal and four assists.

"It was great to have Molly [Collinson] and Sarah [Zadrazil] back," Sayers said. "They were excellent going forward today."

Re extended ETSU's lead to 3-1 before halftime by beating USC Upstate goalkeeper Sarah Plantz on a penalty kick.

The Bucs scored all seven goals on Plantz, who had earned Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Week honors the past two weeks.

"Cecilia [Re]'s penalty was expertly taken," Sayers said. "She and Emilee [Engelhaupt] controlled the game from midfield very well."

ETSU tallied 30 shots on the day (17 shots on goal), allowing the Spartans (3-5-2) to record just seven total shots.

"The back four defenders and Jasmine [Elliott] in goal were solid defensively," Sayers said. "They contributed heavily to how well we retained possession and built play up."

After halftime, a pair of ETSU defenders added to the Bucs' lead, with Hannah Short (Bristol, England) and Jasmin Dutton (Kinmel Bay, Wales) scoring in the 48th and 51st minutes, respectively.

Krist Davis (Edmond, Okla.) recorded her team-best sixth goal of the season in the 56th minute. Davis' 0.353 shot percentage (six goals on 17 shot attempts) leads all ETSU players.

ETSU will look to continue its winning ways when it hosts Mercer Friday, Oct. 4 at 7pm.
