WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 11, 2014) - The ETSU women's soccer team will travel to the nation's capital, Washington, D.C., for a pair of weekend matches. The unbeaten Bucs will take on George Washington Friday, Sept. 12, and Howard Sunday, Sept. 14.
GETTING UP TO SPEED
ETSU will look to continue its program-best start to the season. The Bucs' (6-0) most recent victory came at home versus Alabama A&M Sept. 4, as ETSU routed the Bulldogs, 12-0. ETSU's 12 goals and 47 shot attempts in the match were both program records.
The Bucs travelled to Florence, S.C., Sunday, Sept. 7 to take on Francis Marion. ETSU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead over the Patriots, scoring a pair of goals in the match's opening seven minutes, before the match was cancelled due to severe thunderstorms.
ETSU boasts the nation's top-ranking scoring offense. This season, the Bucs are averaging five goals and 15.33 points per game, which are both nation-best marks.
15 different ETSU players have found the scoring column. Junior Hannah Short (Bristol, England) and Simona Koren (Graz, Austria) lead the Bucs with a nation-best nine goals each.
Junior Sarah Zadrazil (St. Gilgen, Austria) and senior Jasmin Dutton (Kinmel Bay, Wales) are ETSU's top assisters, with each having dished out eight assists, ranking third in the nation.
The Bucs have outscored their opponents, 30-6, on the year.
George Washington Colonials - Atlantic 10 Conference - Washington, D.C.
Friday's match will pit the nation's top scoring offense, ETSU, against one of the nation's top scoring defenses in George Washington.
The Colonials (4-0) have yet to allow a goal this season, outscoring their opponents, 11-0.
Four George Washington players have each scored two goals, while goalkeeper Miranda Horn has made 16 saves en route to recording four clean sheets.
Howard Bison - Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference - Washington, D.C.
Sunday, Sept. 14 at 1:00 p.m.
The Bison (0-4-1) have been outscored, 8-2, this season.
Nia Walcott has scored both of Howard's goals, one in the Bison's season-opener versus VMI, and another in Howard's 1-1 draw with Radford Sept. 7.
Seniors Summer Peterson (Lorton, Va.) and Ellis Parsons (Cardiff, Wales) discuss the Bucs' upcoming road trip to Washington, D.C.
Peterson, a native of Lorton, Va., will be playing about 20 miles from her hometown.
