Murua named Freshman of the Year

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Nov. 4, 2014) - Five ETSU women's soccer players were named to the SoCon's All-Conference teams, including three First Team selections. Freshman Garazi Murua (Getxo, Spain) was tabbed Southern Conference Women's Soccer Freshman of the Year.

ETSU, which features the nation's top-ranked scoring offense, was one of just two programs, along with Furman, to place three or more players on the All-SoCon First Team, with Hannah Short (Bristol, England)Sarah Zadrazil (St. Gilgen, Austria), and Jasmin Dutton (Kinmel Bay, Wales) receiving the distinction.

Freshmen Paola Roversi (Rieti, Italy) and Murua were named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team, with Murua earning the league's Freshman of the Year honor.

Short, the NCAA Division I leader for goals (26) and points (60), has enjoyed a record-breaking campaign thus far this season, setting ETSU and SoCon records for most goals in a single season. The Bristol, England, native has recorded four hat tricks on the year and leads the Buccaneers (15-5) with five game-winning goals.

Zadrazil, last season's Atlantic Sun Player of the Year, is the nation's leader for assists (20) and is the active career leader in NCAA DI for assists per game (0.79). She has recorded points in the Bucs' last nine contests (6 G, 10A), helping ETSU to a 7-2 record during that span.

Zadrazil has received All-Conference First Team honors each of her three seasons at ETSU, while this season marks the second consecutive year Short has received First Team recognition.

Dutton, one of just just four ETSU players to play more than 1,600 minutes this season, ranks third in NCAA DI for assists with 17. ETSU's duo of Dutton and Zadrazil has accounted for 37 of the team's 72 assists, helping pace the Bucs' offense, which is averaging a national-best 3.60 goals per contest.

Murua has started 19 games as a freshman, recording two goals and one assist. She is one of only two ETSU players, along with Emilee Engelhaupt, to play more than 1,700 minutes on the year.

Roversi, who joined Murua on the All-Freshman Team, has made 16 starts for the Bucs, scoring one goal and dishing out five assists.
