Goldoni earns preseason honors for second consecutive season

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Aug. 9, 2018) – The Southern Conference announced its preseason women’s soccer rankings and all-conference teams Thursday morning, as ETSU placed tied for fifth in the coaches poll.

Additionally, senior forward Eleonora Goldoni (Ferrara, Italy) landed on the preseason all-conference squad as one of the top four forwards in the SoCon, according to the coaches’ selections.

Last season, Goldoni earned a spot on the all-conference second team after finishing with a team-best 11 goals (third in SoCon) and 25 points (second in SoCon). The Ferrara, Italy native also took 68 shots with an impressive 34 shots on target (.500 SOG%).

Goldoni was named Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week last season in October for her hat trick performance against The Citadel, helping ETSU to a 4-2 victory with the first three goals of the contest.

The senior forward jumped to a hot start in last night’s 4-1 exhibition victory over Appalachian State, burying two goals for the Bucs. Goldoni is fifth on the all-time ETSU women’s soccer list in career points (62) and fourth in career goals (28).

ETSU received 39 votes as a team, tying Mercer in the preseason rankings. Samford edged defending champion UNCG 75-74 in the voting, taking the top spot in the preseason poll. Furman (68) and Western Carolina (56) earned the third and fourth place slots, respectively.

One point behind ETSU and Mercer stands Chattanooga (38) in seventh, followed by VMI (25), Wofford (23) and The Citadel (13).
