Cutshall moves into second on the ETSU career saves list Sunday night

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Sept. 2, 2018) – The ETSU women’s soccer team could not build off its last road win, falling on the road to Charlotte by a final of 3-0 Sunday night in the Queen City.

The Bucs end their Carolina road swing 1-for-2 after picking up a win at USC Upstate. ETSU falls to 1-5 on the season.

Senior goalkeeper Lea Ann Cutshall (Johnson City, Tenn.) recorded four saves on the night, moving into second on the all-time career saves list ahead of Megan Masch (2007-10). Cutshall has 142 career saves and 29 this season.

After over 30 minutes of scoreless soccer, the 49ers struck first with a goal in the 37th minute by Sophie Sipprell. The junior launched a shot from 15 yards out after a pair of passes set up the look.

Charlotte quickly doubled its lead after the break, scoring a goal 31 seconds into the second half to make it a 2-0 game. The goal by Mary Manser came off a cross to the right post, where Manser redirected the kick leftward for the score.

The final Charlotte score came on a penalty kick in the 84th minute.

ETSU will now have four days before its next contest, as it welcomes the No. 16 Tennessee Volunteers to Summers-Taylor Stadium Thursday at 7 p.m. as part of the Buccaneer Triple Threat.

The week includes matchups with the Bucs and Vols in volleyball (Tuesday in Johnson City), women’s soccer and football (Saturday in Knoxville).
