Two ETSU women’s soccer seniors earn national recognition from HERO Sports fan voting

SEATTLE, Wa. (Sept. 28, 2018) – The accolades continue to roll in for ETSU women’s soccer following last weekend’s impact wins over Furman and Wofford, as Lea Ann Cutshall (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Eleonora Goldoni (Ferrara, Italy) were recognized on the national stage Friday.

In HERO Sports’ national fan vote for NCAA Division 1 women’s soccer’s player and goalkeeper of the week, the senior duo of Cutshall and Goldoni each finished first in the fan voting.

Cutshall, a local product from Science Hill High School, recorded 22 saves while conceiting only one penalty-kick in last weeks wins over Furman and Wofford. Her performance against Furman drew the attention of HERO Sports, as she recorded a nine-save shutout against the defending SoCon regular season champions.

Cutshall edged Prairie View goalkeeper Quinn Josiah in the fan voting by 49 votes to win HERO of the Week for Division 1 goalkeepers. Cutshall — who earned 2,067 votes — beat out Josiah and eight other nominees in the voting to secure the accolade.

Goldoni earned 1,602 votes to finish atop the poll for D1 Women's Soccer HERO of the Week — placing ahead of nine other nominees from all of Division 1. Goldoni had two goals and one assist in the 7-1 victory against Wofford last Sunday to spark the nomination.

Sophomore Sarah Connolly (Ballygowan, Northern Ireland), who is the reigning SoCon Player of the Week and SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week after scoring four goals against Wofford, was also nominated and finished fourth in the voting.
