ETSU jumped out to an early lead as they claimed the doubles point, sweeping all three matches. The Owls collected their lone point in the fifth position when Tara Sheets fell to Paula Takara, 7-5, 6-2. The match between Tara Byrne and Ayano Tanaka was suspended due to rain with Byrne up by one set, 7-6(4), 3-3.
"It was good to pick up a win today and start the conference season with a victory. Today was the first time we've played outside at home this season and that was a bit of an adjustment. But overall I felt that the girls played well and we look forward to having another great season in the Atlantic Sun," said head coach Steve Brooks.
