Looking to start 2-0 for just second time in six years
LYNCHBURG, Va. (Feb. 11, 2013) – The ETSU women’s tennis team takes its 1-0 record to Lynchburg, Va., Tuesday, looking for wins in back-to-back years against Liberty.
ETSU (1-0) began its season two Sundays ago, Feb. 3, with a win at MTSU, 4-1, and could reach 2-0 for just the second time in the last six years if it can defeat Liberty (0-3) in a 1 p.m., matchup on the indoor courts of The Sports Racket. ETSU’s only other 2-0 start since 2008 was two years ago, when it began the year with wins against Milligan and Eastern Kentucky.
The Buccaneers will also be looking to defeat Liberty for the second time in as many years. Last season, the two sides met at the Buddy Hartsell Tennis Center and ETSU won fairly convincingly, 5-2. Then-senior Paula Jaime (Madrid, Spain) came back from 5-1 down in the second set to win 6-3, 7-5, and freshman Jessica Brumit (Elizabethton, Tenn.) won her third-consecutive singles match in the Lady Bucs’ campus opener.
This time around, the Lady Bucs will come at the Flames with senior Antonia Kolovou (Larisa, Greece), juniors Giulia Andreazza (Balneario Camboriu, Brazil), Salma Dahbi (Marrakech, Morocco) Sofia Espana (Mexico City, Mexico) and Larn McShane (Hobart Tasmania, Australia), and freshmen Lyn Yee Choo and Anna Gerbasi (Caracas, Venezuela). Choo and Gerbasi maintain their Ohio Valley Region doubles ranking of No. 8, and are already 1-0 on the spring season after the matchup with MTSU.
Live stats will be available courtesy of Liberty Athletics. A complete match recap will be available Tuesday night on ETSUBucs.com.
