Johnson City, Tenn. -- The East Tennessee State women's tennis team defeated UNC Greensboro 8-1 today in Southern Conference action. The win improves the Bucs to 13-4, 7-1 in league play. UNC Greensboro falls to 5-14, 3-6 in the conference. ETSU wrapped up the second seed in the tournament with one match left to play with its sixth consecutive victory.
The Bucs won all six singles matches for a 6-0 lead, and won two of three doubles on its way to the 8-1 win. UNC Greensboro lone win came at #1 doubles, where Jenny Gonzalez and Michaela Quinn defeated Mami inoue and Rica Iida 8-2.
"This was a long day for us," said ETSU Head Coach Tom Russ. "With the extended rain delay, it was nice to see the team remain focused on the match. We are looking forward to tomorrow's match with Wofford and then it will be nice to have a couple of days to rest before the upcoming Southern Conference Championships."
