Johnson City, Tenn. -- East Tennessee State University defeated Georgia Southern 8-1 in Southern Conference women's tennis action this afternoon at the ETSU tennis courts. With the win, the Bucs improve to 12-4, 6-1 in the conference. The win by ETSU was its ninth in its last ten matches and helped the Bucs surpass last year's win total of 11.
The key matches for the Bucs this afternoon came at the #2 and #5 singles spots. Mami Inoue came back at #2 after losing the first set 7-5 to win 6-1, 6-0. Eglantine Vitse dropped the first set tiebreaker 7-6 before winning the next two 6-3, 6-4 at #5.
With the win, ETSU remains in second place in the Southern Conference. "It was good for us to get a win this afternoon," said ETSU Head Coach Tom Russ. "We would like to finish as high as possible in the conference in order to secure a good seed for the upcoming tournament."
ETSU returns to action on Friday, April 21 when the Bucs travel to UNC Greensboro. The Bucs will host Wofford on April 22 in its regular-season finale.
