Women's Tennis Concludes Regular Season With 5-2 Win Over Davidson

Johnson City, Tenn. -- The East Tennessee State women's tennis team concluded their regular season schedule on a winning note with a 5-2 conference win over Davidson this afternoon from ETSU's Memorial Center.

The Bucs won the doubles point with wins in No.1 and No. 2 doubles. ETSU's Paty Vega and Tatiana Arriaran claimed the win at No. 1 doubles by defeating Davidson's Elizabeth Moreno and Yasamina Hilu, 8-3. No. 2 doubles saw Mami Inoue and Cara Prupas take the 8-4 win over Gayle Jones and Kelley Cantrell. No. 3 doubles saw Jessica Irey and Aimee Villavicencio drop their match, 8-4, to Katherine Hatch and Lindsay Offutt.

Singles action saw the Bucs take four of six wins. Paty Vega won at No. 1 singles in straight sets over Lindsay Offutt 6-1,6-1. At No. 2 singles, Mami Inoue defeated Elizabeth Moreno 6-3,6-1. No. 3 singles saw Jessica Irey drop a 6-4,6-4 decision to Yasamina Hilu. Cara Prupas continued her strong play as she rallied after being down 5-0 in the first set, to take the match over Kelley Cantrell 7-6,6-2 at No. 4 singles and clinched the win for the Bucs. No. 5 singles saw Tatiana Arriaran defeat Gayle Jones 6-3,4-6,6-2. The final match of the afternoon saw Susan Torbett drop a 6-2,6-2 decision to Katherine Hatch at No. 6 singles.

With the win, the Bucs improve to 7-10 overall and finish 4-5 in Southern Conference play. The win also clinches a first-round bye and the No. 6 seed in this weekend's Southern Conference tournament. The Bucs will play the No. 3 seed UNC Greensboro at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 20. The loss makes Davidson the No. 7 seed. They will play No. 10 seed Western Carolina on Thursday, Apr. 19 at 1:00 p.m. The Southern Conference Tournament will be hosted by The Citadel and The City of Charleston.
