Winston-Salem, N.C. (October 25, 2002) - ETSU freshman Sylwia Ziolkowska (Warsaw, Poland) fell 4-6, 6-7 to N.C. State senior Myrna Bawono Friday morning at the Omni Hotels/ITA Southeast Regional hosted by Wake Forest. Ziolkowska started out the first set dropping her first three games. After battling back she was unable to take the lead and Bawono won the first set, 6-4. In the second Ziolkowska led from the first game until a service break by Bawono at 5-4. The game went into a second set tiebreak that was won by Bawono 7-4 to win the set and the match. "Sylwia played a senior who is at the top of N.C. State's lineup that has beaten some nationally ranked opponents," said ETSU head coach Steve Brooks. " I saw some things that we can work on, but the service break at the end of both sets cost us the match." The winning doubles team, winning singles player and the singles finalist qualify for the Omni Hotels/ITA National Indoor Championships in Dallas, Texas, Nov. 7-10. The tournament is the nation's premier collegiate indoor tennis tournament. The Buccaneers will close out their fall season on Nov. 1-3 as they travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to participate in the Wofford Women's Tournament.
