CHARLESTON, SC (April 23, 2004) - The sixth seeded ETSU women's tennis team fell to third seed Davidson 4-2 in the second round of the Southern Conference Championships. The Buccaneers end the 2004 season with an 17-13 overall record. ETSU started strong by clinching the doubles point with wins from Gemma Halim (Jakarta, Indonesia) and Jessica Irey (Clewiston, Fla.) at the No. 2 position in a 8-4 win over Davidson's Meggie Patterson and Lindsey Powel and Courtney McInnis (Waterboro, Maine) and Aimee Villavicencio (Lexington, Ky.) at the No. 3 position in a 8-6 win over Katherine Hatch and Sarah Borkowski. In singles action, ETSU picked up another win from Irey at the No. 4 slot in a 6-2, 6-1 decision, but Davidson powered past the Bucs winning the next four matches to advance in the tournament. "It's a disappointing loss. We were right there with them" said head coach Steve Brooks. "We've come a long way this year and we have accomplished most of the goals we set for ourselves early on in the season. The seniors all played hard and I'm going to miss them."
