Lady Bucs fall to No. 72 Louisiana Lafayette, 6-1

LAFAYETTE, La. (March 22, 2008) - The ETSU women's tennis team fell to the 72nd-ranked Louisiana Lafayette Saturday at the Cajun Courts. The Lady Bucs fall to 10-6 on the year while the Cajuns improves to 11-4.  

 

The Cajuns took the early 1-0 advantage as they claimed the doubles point. In the No. 3 position Vita Moskaliova (Minsk, Belarus) and Andra Voinea (Brasov, Romania) fell to Mia Gordon and Julie Mazinova, 8-5 while Elena Volobueva (Barcelona, Spain) and Whitney Trotter (Guadalajara, Mexico) fell to Angela Dangond and Myrthe Molenveld in the second slot, 8-1. In the top position,  Olya Batsula (Minsk, Belarus) and Yevgeniya Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine) defeated Kim van def Horst and Briggitt Marcovich, 8-6.

 

In singles, Kim van der Horst defeated Olya Batsula in a hard fought battle in the No. 2 position, 1-6, 6-1, 7-5, while Myrthe Molenveld defeated Elena Volobueva, 6-1, 6-2 in the third position. Competing in the No. 4 slot Andra Voinea fell to Angela Dangond, 6-1, 6-2 while Vita Moskaliova fell to Briggitt Marcovich, 6-2, 6-1 in the fifth slot. In the No. 6 position Whitney Trotter fell to Mia Gordon, 6-0, 6-2.

 

The Lady Bucs earned their lone point when No. 92 Yevgeniya Stupak defeated Julie Mazinova, 6-1, 4-6, 11-9 in the No. 1 position.

 

"The girls were just extremely tierd. It's just a shame that the girls weren't able to arrive earlier to prepare for the match. Unfortunately we lost the match because we had some matches rescheduled last minute and our travel plans had to be changed. The girls fought really hard, they were just fatigued. We have four weeks until its conference tournament time and we're ready to start working on that," said head coach Steve Brooks.

 

The Lady Bucs will hit the road again on March 28 and March 29 as they travel to Jacksonville, Fla. to face Jacksonville and North Florida. The match against Jacksonville is set to begin at 2 p.m.
