Blacksburg, Va. (November 2, 2008) - ETSU women's tennis junior Yevgenyia Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine) had one of her best performances of the fall season Sunday, at the Hokie Invitational, in Blacksburg, Va.

The No.63rd ranked Stupak defeated Virginia's Lindsay Hardenbergh, 6-3, 6-4, to win the Flight A singles bracket. On her way to the title Stupak did not drop a single set, winning all five of her matches.

"Hardenbergh is a great player for Virginia," said head coach Steve Brooks "She won her first professional tournament a couple of weeks ago and it was really good to see Yevgenyia (Stupak) play so well against a great player like her and win the bracket."

Also in action for the Bucs was senior Tara Byrne (Johnson City), who dropped her final match of the tournament to Virginia's Emily Fraser, 6-2, 6-0.

In Flight B singles action sophomore Andra Voiena (Brasov, Romania) dropped her final match to Virginia Tech's Katie Blow, 6-3, 6-1, while freshman Paula Jamie (Madrid, Spain) rolled to the consolation bracket title, winning against Western Carolina's Sonia Anand, 6-4, 6-1.

In Flight C singles action ETSU's Vita Moskaliova (Minsk, Belarus) won two straight matches Saturday, however the senior Buc dropped her consolation bracket final's contest to Western Carolina's Ashley Lawrence.

Rounding out the Bucs singles scores was junior Whitney Trotter (Guadalajara, Mexico), who defeated Samantha Smyers of Western Carolina, 6-2, 7-5.

In doubles action, the Bucs team of Byrne and freshman Karina Kedzo (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) defeated the Virginia duo of Hardenbergh and Vaez, 8-5, while sophomore Tara Sheets (Gate City, Va.) and Voiena dropped the MSU's team of Bochenak and Fulcher.

"Overall, we had a real good weekend," said Brooks. "Every girl played hard and I was real proud of each one of them competed. The matches we did lose were against some top players and teams and so hopefully we can build on that and get back to work this week."

ETSU returns to action as they travel to its final fall tournament, at the Duke/UNC Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., November 7th.
