JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 18, 2010) - After seeing its eight match winning streak come to an end Wednesday the ETSU women's tennis team looks to rebound as they return to Atlantic Sun Conference play with a 2 p.m. contest Friday against No. 73 USC Upstate at the Buddy Hartsell Tennis Center on ETSU campus.

The Lady Bucs (8-3, 4-0 A-Sun) lost for only the second time in six weeks Wednesday as No. 71 William and Mary defeated ETSU, 5-2. Before their setback head coach Steve Brooks' ladies have played outstanding with eight straight wins including an impressive 5-2 victory over A-Sun preseason favorite Stetson last Saturday in DeLand, Fla.

Individually, ETSU boasts a trio of players that have strong singles records this spring. Leading the way for the Lady Bucs are senior Yevgeniya Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine), junior Andra Voinea (Brasov, Romania) and sophomore Paula Jaime (Madrid, Spain).

Stupak sits at 8-2 this season, winning her last six matches at No. 1, while Voinea and Jaime are both tied for the team lead in singles victories with identical 10-1 records.

USC Upstate (10-1, 4-0 A-Sun) returned to the nationally rankings this week after picking up its sixth straight win. The Spartans lone loss on the year came back on February 21 against Elon. Overall, Upstate has wins over Charlotte, Murray State, Lipscomb, Belmont, Tennessee Tech, Troy, Kennesaw State and Presbyterian.

Individually, the Spartans are led by a pair of nationally ranked singles players. Freshmen Simona Cacciuttolo and Francicsa Valderama both sit at No. 112 in the latest ITA poll. Combined the two Upstate newcomers boast an 18-2 record in singles.

Overall, ETSU owns a perfect 2-0 record against their league rival. Last season the Lady Bucs defeated the Spartans 5-2, with ETSU sweeping the top four singles contests.
