Women's tennis travels to Georgia State on Saturday

Saturday, February 19, 2011

ATLANTA, Ga. (Feb. 18, 2011) - Following nearly a week off since making a trip to the northeast, the ETSU women's tennis team hits the road once again, this time to take on Georgia State, Saturday afternoon. First serve is set for noon at Piedmont Park.
ETSU heads into the match with a 2-3 record overall, which includes wins against Milligan and Eastern Kentucky. In addition, the Bucs have already faced two nationally ranked opponents in 2011. The team dropped decisions to No. 52 Wake Forest and most recently at No. 40 Yale.
Senior Andra Voinea (Brasov, Romania) and junior newcomer Marine Wieliczko (Rouen, France) lead the Bucs with three wins apiece in singles dual action. Meanwhile, the team of Kelly Holtzhausen (Johannesburg, South Africa) and Tara Sheets (Gate City, Va.) have been strong in doubles play for the Bucs as they enter the weekend with a team best 4-1 mark.
The Panthers will look to remain undefeated after earning a 4-2 win over Mississippi State last Friday. Senior Katerina Gresova and freshman Maryna Kozachenko each remained perfect in singles play at 4-0 this year. Georgia State is a perfect 4-0 on the year that includes wins against the Bulldogs and A-Sun opponent Mercer.

In doubles, Tereza Lerova and Kir Kemp have combined to go a perfect 3-0 record and are ranked No. 40 in the nation in doubles.

Last season, ETSU defeated the No. 57 ranked Panthers by a 4-3 score. In that match, ETSU claimed the crucial doubles point and split the six singles matches to earn the hard fought victory.
