Jaime earns A-Sun Player of the Week honor
Wednesday, April 06, 2011 MACON, Ga. (April 6, 2011) -Following a perfect week at both singles and doubles and helping the Bucs clinch the regular season A-Sun title, junior Paula Jaime (Madrid, Spain) has been named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Jaime went a perfect 2-0 in singles play, while also teaming with Karina Kedzo (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) to go 2-0 in doubles play.
To open the week, Jaime and Kedzo defeated Vera Shkundina and Ayano Tanaka of Kennesaw State. Then, Jaime earned a straight set victory over Alexandra Apostu, 6-1, 6-2, helping the Bucs defeat KSU, 5-2.
On Saturday, Jaime and Kedzo defeated Jennifer Lada and Aurelie de Montjou of Mercer, 8-4. Later, Jaime rolled past Amalia Bugge in singles play, 6-4, 6-0, helping the Bucs defeat the Bears, 6-1, and clinching the A-Sun title.
For the spring season, Jaime and Kedzo own a team-best 12-5 overall doubles record and a 9-1 mark in A-Sun play. The duo has won nine straight matches overall. Jaime is 17-13 overall in singles play this season, while owning a 6-4 A-Sun mark.
This was Jaime's first A-Sun player of the week honor of the season, but it was the second player of the week honor in her career. She earned the A-Sun player of the week award during her freshman season on March 25, 2009.
Jaime is the second ETSU player to earn A-Sun player of the week this season as teammate Kelly Holtzhausen (Johannesburg, South Africa) won the award on February 2 after opening the season with solid play.
