Lady Bucs look to wrap up top spot in A-Sun Tournament Monday night at Belmont

Sunday, February 20, 2011

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 20, 2011) - The ETSU women's basketball team will look to wrap up the number one seed in next month's General Shale Brick Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament Monday night when the Lady Bucs face Belmont inside the Curb Event Center in Nashville. Tip is set for 8 p.m. (EST).

The Lady Bucs (17-10, 14-4) are coming off a 66-52 victory over Lipscomb Saturday night - and a win over the Bruins or a Stetson loss at Florida Gulf Coast - would lock up the top spot of the conference tournament for the Blue and Gold for the fourth consecutive season.

Junior Natalie Pickwell (Kingsport, Tenn.) scored a game-high 20 points against the Lady Bisons, while red-shirt senior post Latisha Belcher (Martinsville, Va.) recorded her third straight double-double - finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Despite shooting less than 30 percent from the field and trailing by seven with 13:36 left in the contest, the Lady Bucs won the game at the free throw line as ETSU went 30-of-36 from the charity stripe - including Pickwell, Belcher and Gwen Washington (Manassas, Va.) going a combined 18-for-18.

Meanwhile, Belmont is coming off a 63-53 setback Saturday night against USC Upstate and the Bruins bring a record of 8-18, 5-12 in Monday's contest.

The Bruins are led by all-conference player Haley Nelson's 12.9 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Freshman guard Molly Ernst is posting 10.2 points and 2.8 threes per contest.

As a team, Belmont ranks tenth in scoring offense (57.4) but the Bruins are third in defense (64.2) among conference foes.

Since falling to Belmont in the 2007 A-Sun Championship, the Lady Bucs have won eight straight against Belmont and lead the all-time series, 11-5. ETSU defeated Belmont, 58-49, last month inside the MSHA Athletic Center.

Fans unable to make the trip to the Music City can listen to the game live on WXSM-AM 640 as "Voice of the Bucs" Jay Sandos will carry the play-by-play. Also, live video streaming will be available on A-Sun.TV, while live stats will be offered on www.BelmontBruins.com.
