Kolovou advances to Flight A final at Wake Forest Invitational

Saturday, October 06, 2012

WINTSON-SALEM, N.C. (Oct. 6, 2012) – Senior Antonia Kolovou (Larisa, Greece) won her quarterfinal and semifinal matches in Flight A on Saturday at the Wake Forest Invitational, earning her spot in the final to highlight day two for the ETSU women’s tennis team at the Wake Forest Invitational.

Kolovou began the day taking down Wake Forest’s Andrea Retoloza 7-6, 6-3, and earned her spot in Sunday’s final with another straight set win, 6-2, 6-3, over the College of Charleston’s Christin Newman. Kolovou will take on UNCG’s Nitooli Willkins in the final.

The Bucs also saw success in Flight B, as Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) and Anna Gerbasi (Mexico City, Mexico) each went 2-0 on the day, advancing to the flight’s back draw final.

“It was a very successful day overall,” ETSU assistant coach Travis Sandlant said. “It was good to see Tessie [Choo] and Anna make it through to the back draw final against each other. Antonia is hitting the ball very clean at the moment, and had a huge win against Wake Forest today. She deserves to be in the final, and hopefully she has one more good match in her.”
