ASHEVILLE, N.C. (Feb. 22, 2013) – The ETSU women’s tennis team got back to its winning ways Friday at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown, defeating the UNC Asheville Bulldogs, 7-0.

ETSU (3-2) ends a two-match losing streak with the win and hands Asheville (4-3) its first home loss in five matches this season. The Lady Bucs won handily, sweeping the doubles point and winning all six singles points in straight sets.

“We started on a positive note in doubles and played smart across the board,” ETSU assistant coach Travis Sandlant said. “It was great to see Sofia bounce back in singles and for Antonia to continue her streak.”

Senior Antonia Kolovou (Larisa, Greece) won her seventh consecutive singles match, defeating Zoe Hamel in the No. 1 spot, 6-3, 6-2. Kolovou moves her 2012-13 overall record to 13-8 and is a perfect 5-0 in dual play. Meanwhile, junior newcomer Sofia Espana (Mexico City) bounced back in singles after suffering her first dual defeat over the weekend, taking care of Amryn Soldier in the No. 4 match, 6-1, 6-2.

Other Lady Buccaneer winners on the day included Anna Gerbasi (Caracas, Venezuela), Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia), Salma Dahbi (Marrakech, Morocco) and Jessica Brumit (Elizabethton, Tenn.). Choo and Gerbasi also ended a two-match losing streak in doubles, rolling by Hamel and Ericka Rivero, 8-5.

The Lady Buccaneers are back in action Saturday, heading to Boone, N.C. to battle Appalachian State at 2 p.m.
