BRISTOL, Tenn. (March 21, 2013) – The ETSU women’s tennis team returns to Johnson City on Friday, hosting North Florida from the Bristol Racquet Club
First serve between the Lady Buccaneers (6-4, 1-0 A-Sun) and North Florida (9-3, 2-0 A-Sun) is scheduled for 1 p.m., and will be ETSU’s first home match of the season.
ETSU ended a two-match losing streak with two wins last weekend, beginning conference play by defeating USC Upstate, 6-1, and ending the weekend with a non-conference win, 7-0, past Western Carolina.
Freshman Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) carries a team-best, seven-game winning streak and boasts a team-best, 22-7 overall record entering Friday. Choo primarily plays at No. 3 and 4, holding a 3-0 mark at No. 3 and 6-1 at the No. 4. In doubles, she teams with fellow classmate Anna Gerbasi (Caracas, Venezuela) for a 17-8 overall mark, 7-2 dual. The duo has won its last five matches.
Senior newcomer Antonia Kolovou (Larisa, Greece) has been impressive through the first half of the season. Kolovou is 16-9 overall, 8-1 dual, and plays all her matches on court one. Kolovou is 11-4 in doubles when paired with junior Larn McShane (Hobart Tasmania, Australia), including a 5-2 mark in dual play.
North Florida has had impressive individual performances from Lorena Aviles and Simona Weymar. Aviles boasts a team-best 19-5 overall singles record, 10-2 dual, and has won her last five contests. Weymar isn’t far behind at 19-6 overall, 10-2 dual, and has won her last seven matches.
UNF’s top doubles team is Melanie Aguirre and Aviles who are 14-4 overall, 9-2 dual. All of their dual matches have come at No. 1.
