ETSU drops just one set during three-day tournament
ELON, N.C. (Sept. 15, 2013) – In its opening weekend of fall play, the ETSU women’s tennis team dominated the Elon Fall Invitational, dropping just one set en route to winning all five flights it competed in.
Sophomore Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) capped her stellar weekend with a straight set victory over Isabel von Stryk of USC Upstate (6-1, 6-3) to win the A-1 singles flight. Choo did not drop a set in singles play or doubles play, as she teamed with senior Salma Dahbi (Marrakech, Morocco) to capture the A-3 doubles flight.
Dahbi and fellow senior Sofia Espana (Mexico City, Mexico) elected to share the B-1 singles title, as both advanced to the finals Saturday. Espana dropped just one set during singles play, losing the first set to Taylor Casey of Elon in the semifinals before storming back to win in three sets.
Senior Giulia Andreazza (Balneario Camboriu, Brazil) knocked off William & Mary’s Sydney Smith in the finals of the A-3 singles flight, 6-2, 7-5. Andreazza also paired with Espana to win the B-1 doubles flight, beating Mia Ramic and Aissa Muamba of North Carolina Central University, 8-1.
