ELON, N.C. (Sept. 12, 2014) - Seniors Jessica Brumit (Elizabethton, Tenn.) and Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) each advance to the semifinals of their respective singles flights of the Elon Fall Invitational.
The two also advanced to the semifinals in doubles, with Choo teaming with Ionna Markesini (Athens, Greece), and Brumit pairing with Jayde Viccars (Glen Waverley, Australia).
Choo, who earned a spot on the All-Atlantic Sun First Team each of the past two seasons, picked up a pair of victories Friday, defeating Terezo Heilova of Western Kentucky, followed by Xue Zhang of Wake Forest. Choo came from behind to outlast Zhang in a third-set tie break, 5-7, 6-3, 10-5.
Brumit, the reigning Atlantic Sun Women's Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year, also got a pair of wins, beating Kristina Centenari of Wake Forest, and Joan van Lochem of Furman.
Choo will play Libert's Mariely Hassey Saturday for a trip to the A-1 Singles flight finals, while Brumit will take on Liberty's Evangeline Crist for a spot in the A-3 Singles flight finals.
In doubles play, Choo and Markesini will vie for a spot in the A-1 Doubles finals against Emilia Granstrom and Andreanna Christopoulou of Western Kentucky. Viccars and Brumit will face Taylor Casey and Olivia Lucas of Elon in the B-1 Doubles semifinals.
