JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 11, 2015) - Throughout the season, members of the ETSU women’s tennis team will be featured in a ‘‘Getting to Know’’ segment on ETSUBucs.com.
The first student-athlete to be profiled is senior Jessica Brumit (Elizabethon, Tenn.). Brumit has an overall singles record of 45-15 and was part of the Atlantic Sun conference championship team in 2014, in which she had a 14-3 singles record and 13-3 doubles record. In 2014, the Elizabethon Tenn., native was named A-Sun Scholar Athlete of the Year and was also ranked No. 118 in the nation to start the season.
Brumit's teammates came up with the questions. Below are Brumit's responses:
What are your plans after graduation?
I am currently applying to Medical Schools and hope to start in the fall of 2016. In the year between, I would like to travel the world some.
Why did you start playing tennis?
Both of my brothers were playing and I always wanted to do exactly what they did, so I begged my parents to let me play.

Dallas Cowboys tight end and Elizabethton, Tenn., native Jason Witten.
What is something that not many people know about you?
I want to learn to fly one day.
Who is the best dancer on the team?
What is a bad habit you have?
Candy Crush. Someone showed me the game and I haven't been able to stop playing it. I always have to play if before going to bed.

What is the most adventurous thing you have done?
Skiing down a double black diamond slope out west, which we had to hike to get to.
If you were not playing tennis what do you think you would be doing?
I have always loved all kinds of sports, so I would probably be playing another sport. I ran cross-country for a few years in high school and really enjoyed that, so I would most likely be running.
If you were not afraid of doing something, what would you do?
Scuba diving with sharks. I love the ocean and love seeing sharks, but I am completely frightened by them at the same time.

Spending time with friends and family.
Who do you look up to most in life?
My Mom. She is so strong and has taught me to always be myself and do whatever I can to be happy in life.

I have always wanted to visit Australia. Since I was little, I have wanted to dive the Great Barrier Reef and also watch the Australian Open. I have heard wonderful things about Melbourne from Jayde, so I am definitely hoping I can visit her there.
If you could have dinner with somebody dead or alive who would it be and why?
Christopher Columbus. I would like to know about the struggles they faced on their journey and understand what bravery it took to set out into the complete unknown.
If you could have one thing in the world what would it be?
If you were an animal, what would you be?
Which is your favorite non-ETSU tennis memory?
Winning the Tennessee State 10 and under championship. I saved four set points in the final, so it was exciting.
