SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 24, 2015) – ETSU junior Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played March 16-22.
Choo was a perfect 4-0 in all competition last week as the Bucs picked up conference wins over Wofford (7-0) and Western Carolina (6-1).
Choo has now won six straight matches in singles play as she picked up a pair of wins at the top position last week. The Kuching, Malaysia, native opened the week with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Wofford’s Catherine Martin before topping Western Carolina’s Megan McLinden, 6-4, 6-2.
Teaming with Ionna Markesini in doubles play, Choo helped the Bucs’ top pair secure an 8-3 win over Wofford’s Kalli Karas and Lauren Reid. Choo and Markesini then raced to an 8-2 win over WCU’s McLinden and Shannon Bettiol. ETSU’s top tandem recently cracked the ITA doubles rankings last week, checking in at No. 70.
The Buccaneers, who are on a three-match winning streak, return to action Friday when they host UNCG.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Furman’s Ansley Speaks, Samford’s Stephanie N’tcha, and Chattanooga’s Kayla Jones.
