ETSU turns in another strong day in Wilmington
WILMINGTON, N.C. (Sept. 12, 2015) – The East Tennessee State University women’s tennis team turned in another stellar performance in day two of the UNC Wilmington Invitational Saturday. The Bucs won seven of eight singles matches against Campbell and went 1-2 in three doubles matches against Wisconsin. With the results today, ETSU’s record moves to 11-5 in singles competition and 3-3 in doubles during the Invitational.
Melissa Esguerra (Derrimutt, Austrailia), Ana Gerbasi (Caracas, Venezuela) and Yi Chi Ma (Taipei, China) all picked up their second singles victories of the invite, while four other Bucs won their first of the fall season.
“We had some players play in different spots in singles against Campbell,” said ETSU head coach Travis Sandlant. “It was great to still get a lot of wins on the board.”
The team of Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) and Gerbasi picked up ETSU’s doubles win against Wisconsin. The Bucs held their own against the Badgers as they have gone 5-6 combined over the past two days.
“We were right in the doubles today,” said Sandlant. “Wisconsin played a good brand of tennis. We competed well but just missed a few of these sudden death point, which hurt us.”
ETSU will wrap up play in the invite Sunday with a singles bout against host school UNC Wilmington and a doubles contest against Campbell.
