Bucs go 3-2 in the qualifying round of the ITA Regionals

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Oct. 15, 2015) – A pair doubles victories by the East Tennessee State University women’s team highlighted its first day at the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals Thursday. Overall, the Buccaneers accumulated a record of 3-2.

Thursday was the qualifying round in the event and both Marina Espana (Castellar Del Valles, Spain) and Yi Chi Ma (Taipei, China) were in action for the Bucs. Espana went 1-1 in singles action to move her record to 8-1 this fall, while Ma fell in her lone match of the day to move her record to 4-4.

In addition to their work in singles competition, Espana and Ma teamed to earn a pair of double victories over teams from Butler and Northern Kentucky. With the wins, the pair of freshman will advance to the main doubles draw Friday.

The Bucs are scheduled to take part in four matches as the tournament switches to the main draws in both singles and doubles. Lynn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) and Ioanna Markesini (Athens, Greece) will begin their respective in the runs both individually and as a team, while Espana and Ma will continue play as a team.

Play is set to resume from West Lafayette, Ind. at 8 a.m. Friday.
