Bucs begin 2-0 for the second straight season

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 31, 2016) – A day after sweeping USC Upstate in its season opener, the ETSU women’s tennis team followed that performance up with another sweep Sunday as it defeated Appalachian State, 7-0. It is the second consecutive season that the Buccaneers have begun their season 2-0.

ETSU won five of the six singles contests Sunday in two sets, while the Bucs notched a pair of 6-1 victories in doubles play. Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia), Regina Nychytailova (Maripol, Ukraine), Melissa Esguerra (Derrimutt, Australia) and Marina Espana (Castellar Del Valles, Spain) all improved their records to 2-0 this spring in singles. In doubles, the teams of Choo and Ana Gerbasi (Caracas, Venezuela) as well as Espana and Ioanna Markesini (Athens, Greece) also improved to 2-0.

The Bucs will hit the road for the first time this season Wednesday when they travel to Morehead, Ky. to take on Morehead State. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
