JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 25, 2016) – The 73rd-ranked ETSU women’s tennis team will look to keep its perfect record intact this weekend as it heads to North Carolina for a pair of matches. The Bucs will face UNC Wilmington at 2 p.m. Friday and will close out the road swing against Elon Sunday at 1 p.m.
As the 7-0 overall record would indicate, the Bucs have had a great deal of success this season in both singles and doubles. Collectively, ETSU has a 33-4 record in singles action and a 17-1 mark in doubles play. Five of ETSU’s singles players are undefeated led by the 6-0 records of Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) and Marina Espana (Castellar Del Valles, Spain).
After dropping its first two matches of the season to Coastal Carolina and Clemson, UNC Wilmington has rebounded with a pair of 4-3 wins over Furman and ECU. The Seahawks and Bucs met up last fall with ETSU winning five of the nine matches between the two schools. The last time ETSU and UNCW met in a spring season match was March 10, 2013, and the Seahawks defeated the Bucs, 4-3.
Elon comes into the weekend with a record of 1-7 overall. However, four of the seven losses came against ranked opponents. Elon’s top player this spring has been Erica Braschi who has a record of 4-4 in singles out of the No. 2 singles slot. Braschi has also teamed with Taylor Casey to notch the team’s only winning record in doubles play (3-2).
